New Hall

Today we went to our brand new hall for Kapa Haka. We really like how it looks. It has shiny polished floors, coloured fluffy walls, painted walls, brand new kitchen and toilets, and fancy new door handles.

"The hall looks awesome" - Henry

"It looks incredible" - Archie

"I like the white coloured walls" - Charlie

"It's now a welcoming hall" - Athena

"It looks much better" - Millie

"I love the style of the new hall" - Reilly

We can't wait for you to see it at our next team assembly!

Underwater Eco-system

This week we have been looking at what eco-systems are. This is a new word for most of us so we have been looking at some videos that help explain it.

Here are two we watched below.

After you watched these, use the padlet to write down something you learnt.

Term 3

Welcome back to another exciting term in Room 12. I hope you've all had a fantastic break. We have lots of interesting things planned for this term.

Some of the things we will be doing this term are:

- Science: cause and effect
- Fractions, ratios and proportions.
- Geometry
- Music
- Dance splash & Art splash
- Lots of reading and writing

This weeks phonics sound is the "tion' sound. It's slightly strange because the "t" doesn't make its usual sound. To learn more check out this video:

Schools - Then and Now: Rules for teacher

When we were researching the differences between schools then and now we came across "rules for teachers".

We thought they were quite a bit silly:

- Teachers are not allowed out after 8pm
- They must not marry.
- Teachers must clean the chimneys once a week and scrub the floors with hot, soapy water.
- Teachers aren't allowed to go to a barber shop.
- They must not loiter ice cream parlours.
- Teachers must not wear bright, colourful clothes.
- Teachers aren't allowed to dye their hair.
- They must work 10 hours a day and then read good books.
- They weren't allowed to leave the city without permission.

Which is one worst? Which one is the silliest? What rules would you make up for your teacher?

School - Now and Then

Today we have been looking what schools were like a long time ago and what they were like now.

What was it like when you or your parents went to school?

One of the things we were discussing is the amount of rooms in a school. A long time ago, most schools only had one room in which all the students were taught in. We were trying to guess how many rooms KNS has altogether.

How many do you think?

- Every two teachers shares an office.
- Our principals have an office each.
- Don't forget about rooms like...the staffroom, boardroom, library etc.
